WHY WAS MY UIF CLAIM REJECTED? THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE HIDDEN IN YOUR EMPLOYEE HISTORY

A recent UIF claim rejection reminded me why accurate UIF records, employee history, and historical UIF declarations are just as important as current compliance.

We submitted a UIF claim where every UIF declaration from 2021 up to the employee's date of termination had been correctly completed. The supporting documents were accurate, the employment history appeared complete, and there were no obvious uFiling or UIF compliance issues.

Two days later, the UIF claim was rejected.

After numerous enquiries and a detailed investigation, we discovered that the problem had nothing to do with the current employment period.

The issue originated in 2017.

When the employee left employment for the first time, the employer failed to properly terminate the employee's UIF record on the system.

When the employee returned to work in 2021, a new employment period was created. However, because the original record from 2017 had never been closed, the Department of Labour's records reflected conflicting employment information.

To the system, it appeared as though the employee had worked continuously despite there being two separate periods of employment.

The result was a rejected UIF claim.

This case highlights an important lesson for employers, payroll administrators, HR practitioners, accountants, bookkeepers, and employees.

A successful UIF claim depends not only on current compliance but also on accurate historical UIF data.

An error made years ago can affect a UIF application submitted today.

Many UIF claim rejections, UIF claim delays, and uFiling problems are not caused by the current employer. They are often linked to historical employee records, incorrect termination dates, duplicate employment records, missing declarations, or unresolved UIF compliance issues that have existed for years.

A rejection is not a diagnosis. It is simply a symptom.

The real challenge is identifying the underlying cause.

This is why Labour Dynamix specialises in UIF rectification, UIF compliance, employee record corrections, UIF declaration reviews, payroll audits, historical data investigations, and resolving complex uFiling problems.

If your UIF claim has been rejected and you do not know why, the answer may be hidden in your employment history.
